Kitchen Notes from a Two-Week Ridge Stay
Life Stack mornings, shared dinners, and the quiet migration of the Tea Tray.

We spent fourteen local days in a Ridge configuration—Hab Dome with Storm Shell, Quiet Room Insert, Life Stack Ridge, Uplink Mast outside, soft play packed but not dominant. These notes are about the kitchen, because that is where the stay stopped feeling like a demo and started feeling like a week people would repeat.
XYZ Industries designs Kitchen as routine, not spectacle. The following is the routine that worked.
Mornings belong to Life Stack
Life Stack Ridge earns its footprint in the first hour. Clear heat zones (demo concept), vertical storage that labels itself, soft-close bins that do not wake the Quiet Room. We kept Meal Card Rails updated with three lines: breakfast default, dinner plan, “use first” dry good.
Shared Bowl Set for two lived in the ware bay—always the same two bowls on top. That tiny consistency mattered more than variety. When gravity and EVA schedules already ask for attention, bowls should not.
Tea & Warmth Tray started on the prep ledge every morning. By day four we stopped discussing it. Rituals that survive fatigue are the ones that have a physical home.
Midday is Travel’s problem (on purpose)
On hop days, kitchen ambition dropped. Hop Bag — Ridge carried a meal sleeve with Life Stack day portions. We did not try to cook “for real” between sites. Between-Landing Shelf Pack held the extras that would only tempt us to overpack the bag.
This division kept Life Stack sacred. The cook core was for habitat time. Travel was for sustaining the window. Crews that blur those modes end up with crumbs in Vestibule Shelf and resentment at dinner.
Evenings are when the house appears
Dinner was the social peak. Light Rail Soft shifted to a warmer preset. Soft Ring Set stayed packed until dishes cleared—Play Soft after kitchen close, never during. Story Night Pack appeared twice in two weeks; that was enough. The point was not entertainment density. The point was a clean counter and people sitting down.
After dinner the Tea Tray migrated to Evening Tray Dock in Downtime. That migration is a design feature, not a quirk. Kitchen and Quiet Room are a path. If the path is missing, cups colonize Signal’s Shared Call Seat and someone takes a call next to a sticky spoon. We know because day two tried that experiment.
What we would configure differently
We would add Herb Niche next time for Ridge—more for the gesture of green than for calories. We would not expand ware to Colony scale; two weeks of two people did not need it. We would keep Wash Loop Soft habits stricter on days six and eleven, when fatigue made us sloppy.
Uplink Mast had nothing to do with soup, except this: when Signal is calm, dinner is calmer. Delayed family notes lived in Message Queue Tray until after dishes. Etiquette is a kitchen ingredient.
Notes for Scout and Colony neighbors
Scout kitchens can borrow the “two bowls on top” rule and the Tea Tray migration even without full Life Stack Ridge. Colony kitchens need shift-aware tea trays and clearer Meal Card Rails so overlapping crews do not invent conflicting plans.
Ship staging mattered on arrival day: Life Stack as a unit, OPEN FIRST Landing Day Bundle elsewhere, Play last. We ate a simple first meal before the Soft Ring Set ever left its crate. That order is in the Ship page for a reason.
Two weeks is long enough to learn what you open every day. Life Stack is built for those openings—warm, clear, and ready for the next ordinary morning.
